Bern - Just Married
Continue reading "Bern - Just Married"
"Ago the year 2000 Laurent Bernonville aka Bern, from Lille in northern France, regularly performed as a DJ, playing Techno/Funk/House sets in many clubs and parties in the north of France and in Belgium. During that time he released his first 12" with K-Rym on their own label "tenac-c". But also Bern found his private luck with the birth of his son giving him a strong creative impulse to widen his perception of electronic song-scapes. The weekly residency in the local radio show "Studio 1" together with Tez and Jonas Bering were also important indicators to accomplish a top level of clean minimalistic productions that don't need basslines to groove.
His efforts resulted in two 12"s for the cologne label Traum Schallplatten that have gained a lot of attention, for example "Loann" being featured by Richie Hawtin on a mix for BBC One. Recently Bern founded a new label called "Postair" together with Tez and Jonas Bering as a new outlet for their works, besides first releases with his new project "Molair" together with Tez will be available soon, orienting more into a "rock minimal dub" direction.
In between all these events Bern also keeps an eye on the internet and has figured that an dynamic netlabelscene has evolved. Doing online releases help Bern to reach far more people than keeping it to hardwax releases only, besides he got many new contacts. His online releases so far took place on Sweet Smelling Surfaces and Pheek's Archipel but it is the spanish (net)label Sinergy Networks Bern is most strongly linked. After the THN074/SN021 cooperation "Thinnergy" between both labels we're very pleased at Thinner to have Bern releasing a new EP with us.
"Just Married" contains four long evolving tracks, subtle, yet delicate minimalism that meets french charme. "It's today" comes with a dry bassdrum and twirling clicks until the song gradually begins to vanish into an aether of individual bits and bytes. Slowly the structures beginn to crawl out of the breeding mass to reunite into the original draft of "It's today". The second piece "The Road" is begins with a similar static but is less restricted to form and function, it accentuates Berns soft, yet precise idea of minimalism that doesn't need a bassline to groove. Easily Bern manages to develop this piece into a relaxed piece with easy swing and friendly dubs. "White Bridge" is yet another long evolving piece that comes with more slow industrial rhythms and metallic hats. Bern manages to craft a static construction of breeding melancholy with all these metallic sounds clangouring. The last song "Married" is the fitting agenda to this EP, beautiful light pads, reduced clicks, hush voices and exposed bassdrums are the right indicators for Berns concept of music, bringing back to memory what minimalism really is about: when only a few 100kb of samples are needed to have a decent impact on the listener
This EP will also be available as 12" on the french label LABO MUSIC. For more information also visit Bern's homepage." (From the Thinner's release page)

Sinergy Networks Vs. Thinner - Thinnergy
Continue reading "Sinergy Networks Vs. Thinner - Thinnergy"
"Finally we're proud to present the longawaited cooperation release with the fine spanish Sinergy Networks Label. Before we continue with the (usual) release description, some words about Sinergy.
Sinergy Networks is a netlabel managed by Luiz Ortiz / L.O.D. who got socialized with electronic music being 17, working in Ireland setting up sound systems at different venues. Being a passioned music lover, Luiz found the Vinyl/CD Label 'Klitekture' 2001 in Gran Canaria. Klitekture has meanwhile had releases by Sutekh, Mikael Stavostrand and Deadbeat amongst other split EPs. In addition to 'Klitekture', the netlabel Sinergy Networks was created early 2003 to experiment a bit more on electronic music, applying the theory of sinerism to music production.
Current Sinergy Artists are Funzion, Gurtz, Abstract Groove, Pep Gaya, Franco Cinelli or Tupperwear. Altogether, the label has been very active the past months by doing new releases in a rhythm of 2 weeks, providing damn nice releases related to minimal house/techno. Thinner and Sinergy Networks share similar circles of interest regarding certain types of music, so we thought of getting together, becoming allies.
So, for this special occassion, we present four artists known from their Sinergy releases and have four thinner artists doing remixes. According to this release, there is a pendant release on Sinergy-networks.com (SN021), that features those four thinner artists with their own tracks, remixed by Sinergy artists! Go download! - but first take a listen to this package, providing 8 new tracks!
Bern from Lille, France, who has recorded 12"s for the cologne based Traum Label starts off with the (maybe) most reduced track ever released on Thinner (it's similar reduced as Thomas Jaldemark's 'Highway Patrol' from THN001!). If you listen carefully you'll find many mini-bleeps, crackles & pops spraying like a campfire during darkness, forming an abstract rhythmic building. We thought that Bern's song could need a Pheek treatment aside Thinner's, so there goes his Acid mix, that sounds like a breeding mixture of organic chemical ingredients getting stired in a huge metallic bowl.
'Minerva' by Funzion is a classic floating minimal dubhouse tune like we haven't had it in a while on Thinner. Consisting of a few functional elements you're easily put to seesawing. The remix of Theodor Zox is more complex and crisp in detail, cutting off the hook melody however keeping the tonal sequence. Nice!
Next up is Gurtz from Buenos Aires, a promising talent and also an artist who has been in the focus recently with releases on Stadtgruen and a compilation track for Clevermusic. 'Klok' from Gurtz sounds like the pure summer, mellow pads combined with warmth and minimal rythmic details that feel like a sunrise. Smoothness! So let's hear the starbreezing transformation of secret agent deluge from Montreal. He truely sequenced a profound shimmering gem of glitter pads and sparkling effects that dive within the warm spaces Gurtz original track has left!
Last but not least we have the contribution 'Sol' by Luiz Ortiz himself aka L.O.D. with the Marko Fürstenberg remix, a solid dubhouse icon. While L.O.D. balances his mix out, Marko's version is a little more straight, securely persecuting the flow of the original track." (From the Thinner's release page)

LOD + Bern + Gurtz - Electroide EP
Continue reading "LOD + Bern + Gurtz - Electroide EP"
"Electroide is an experimental work of LOD mixing his usual minimal rythms ansd beautiful melodies with eletro sounds, broken sounds and voices first time seen in one of his productions that are treated like sounds that overall makes an original and interesting minimal techno work
All the songs were first recorded under simple estructures in logic with virtual instruments mainly reaktor and then processed and sequenced in live to break the structures, sounds and most improtantly to combine thanks to the flexibility of live different elements within a concept
Bern, one of the new upcoming talents from france recording in labels like traum or trapez has been the artist in change of manipulating electroide from LOD making 2 remixes of serious and purist minimalism different to his production on vinyl. His remixes were done in record time sharing all this material through internet and have been presented to you in record time via internet also.
Gurtz is also a new talent from argentina and collaborates in the release with an impressive remix programing the original sounds in a very personal way to give his perception of minimalism to this work. In the near future we will see more releases from Gurtz and his mate Funzion also from argentina." (From the Sinergy Networks' release page)

VA - Assignement 1

"Confronted with the idea of only using 3 samples from the samplepack and then picking one extra, a bunch of Archipel artists went beyond their usual creative routine to deliever a massive effort. Eight tracks that introduce you to an exercise which will be repeated regularly, as Archipel is a label about challenges and new ideas. Only reprocessing and effects were permitted, as Archipel believes that creative limits are actually a door that leads beyond our personal limits.
This release opens up with Navarro, who goes on an ambient excursion and sets a tone for the whole release. If minimalism is the operative word, Bern follows with a very cold and heady track, a perfect tool for DJs and also a door opener to personnal introspection. Tpolar is next with a moment of glitchy punches, followed by Le_Cantin who takes it deep. Then, we introduce a new artist to our label, Plaster, who makes his first appearance with a bit of the dark side, very deep and serious. Next is Gyges with an intensly minimal track, reminiscent of Richie Hawtin's Concept series. Finally, Jesse Somfay and Pheek close this first Assignement with 4/4 tracks, as they love to do.
Should you have any idea of challenges for future Assignement Compilations, please share them with us at info@archipel.cc" (From the Archipel's release page)

Bern + Receptor - Respect EP
Continue reading "Bern + Receptor - Respect EP"
"We are very proud to present this new interaction on sinergy-networks by two really talented artists that have gain their relationship on the web chating sharing ideas, sounds etc They have work together in the past for the ojo de apolo label (runed by receptor) thing that never happened inany sinergy release before since we try to look for different combinations and mixtures of styles but defenitely we wanted to push their talents to the max and decided to create this amazing e.p. of heavy dark minimalism.
Receptor lives in Chile and Bern in France, they have a similar approach to electronic music while keeping their own caracteristics what we felt it will be very interesting for the label and their experiments.
Bern is the king of glitchy smothness, his works are every time more minimal and experimental but still with some soul and rythm. Receptor music is more complex and heavy, a real dancefloor killer full of concept and granular synthesis that beautifully decorate his music.
Even though the output could be imagine or picture in your head, this release will blow your mind and will take to a trip of well done and detailed minimalism......GREAT INTERACTION!!!" (From the Sinergy Networks' release page)
