"Already dropped by Richie Hawtin, Archipel presents you with Kabale und Liebe's debut on the Archipel netlabel and it is a stormer!
We start off with "2 Voor de Prijs Van 1" which was produced with the help of Kabale und Liebe's friend A.L. The track immediately gets straight to the point with it's heavy strung out backbone and stuttering hi end full of tiny subleties and squishy effects.
"Blow Your Own Trompet" is an equally madenning piece fueled by humid darkness, wobbly acid flashes and neuron shattering edits.
Next is "Abre los Cantinas", which kicks it hard and brings with it mental noises and clever edits perfect for your late night freakout.
"Red Light Ticket" slips in under your mental windshield and straight through the glass into your head leaving you in a bouncy state of hypnosis." (From the Archipel's release page)

"The one year anniversary of Archipel continues with a second release of celebration. We close the first year like we started it with Anonym.
Archipel presents you with the second coming of Anonym, "Run," on the netlabel. Beginning with "Retrogram" the listener is taken into an instant hypnosis by a wobbling bass which gradually sprouts tonal rings, shattered remains of digital thought and a throbbing backbone.
"Unidentified Runner" is a dark and humid push and pull into the depths of a an alien gelatin ocean with spooky crevaces every which way one looks.
"Crusing the Circuit" is a shatterd breath full of digital ruin and a thumping underside set to damage with its epileptic and angry circuitry ready to turn its back to man and take control. To close of this release is "Renewal" where a kinetic protocyber heave hoe builds into a warm midnight dance escapade. An ecstatic full circle end to the first wondrous year of Archipel and the beginning of an entire new generation of music." (From the Archipel's release page)

Sul.a - Don't Forget To Turn Off The Light

"One could have blinked and missed the entire past year, but not with Archipel. It has been a year of sound adventures and creative mass. And to celebrate we bring you two new netreleases. The first of which is local Quebec artist Sul.a's stunning Archipel debut net LP entitled "Don't Forget to Turn Off the Lights."
It begins with the shuddering and stuttering "En Plein Dedans le Mois de Novembre" which is a delicate dance of chopped up chords and crystaline percussion. "Boardish4" continues with a chilly and yet dreamy mood which reminds one of Boards of Canada or Autechre.
Next "Motorik" is an industrial post-apocalyptic disco akin to that of Plaid. "Pelles et Chatiments" is a cheery and smooth wintery groove like a breath of frosty air on a crisp morning. Spasming in "Le Son du Cuir Qui S'Etire" is an Aphex like journey around a stuttering and clattering merry-go-round which leads to "Sans Nom" where the mood is warmed up a little while still remaining crisp and shining with bright chords and fluffy enigmatic pads.
"Choix du President" is a rubbery and bouncing echo under the surface of a mid winter frozen lake while "Pudding Gele" compliments it by being the shimmering lightly dusted ice crystals shining brightly in a forest of sunlight guitar chords. To end this sparkling aural journey is the cerebral chop-chop jazz of the aptly named "A Rather Jazzy Ending" which is just that with its Squarepusher feel." (From the Archipel's release page)

Social System - Trial Of Errors

Continue reading "Social System - Trial Of Errors"
"The twelfth release is the Archipel debut for Social System, which consists of Jean-Patrice Remillard (more widely known as Pheek and the owner of Archipel) and Jason Corder (also known as Off the Sky and works with labels like Autoplate.) They join forces here to create "Trial of Errors" which is a gentle melting pot of Corder's deep and dubby sound combined with Remillard's stuttering and spasming percussive and glitchy workouts.
The release begins with "Los Angeles" which is a deep and yet razor sharp trip through a world of classy melodies, designer sounds and haunting effects.
"Garlic Rooftop" is a bouncy and stuttering number where Remillard's funky side is definitely present. It is full of far out effects and drugged out melodies.
To finish off the Trial of Errors, "Right of Way" is a heavy hitting and groovy beast with a cheeky bass riff and crystaline melodies. Overall this EP shows that Remillard and Corder know how to set the right moods to lead into to some of the most intricate and dancy trips around." (From the Archipel's release page)

Half Moon Dragster - INRI

Continue reading "Half Moon Dragster - INRI"
"Half Moon Dragster has released on Montreal's experimental Alien8 label and now brings Archipel its eleventh release "INRI" and this one is a trip.
Beginning with "Terra," the journey is only just beginning. Phasing IDM textures, slippery hats and extremely deep kicks form aural hallucinations of rubbery landscapes. "Ignis" is a watery swim through an infinitely distinct, organic haze of digital boiling and electric hissing.
"Aqua" literally continues this watery escapade full of reverberating drips and warps in a very cave like and perfected mass of texture. Next is "Mens" which brings the listener into a strange and crystaline jungle of far out textures and not one iota less deeper than you can imagine.
"Epilogue OOINRI" isn't the end, but just a continuation of perpetual depth and expansive, mental texture fields to trip out with. Enter Half Moon Dragsters very own remix of Terra which is a more edgy and schizophrenic take on the original.
The EP now ends with David Kritian's remix of Terra which brings its guns slung low with subtle hisses and shattered noises soaking wet with chilly, ethereal pads which take the listener off into the night." (From the Archipel's release page)

Christian Dittmann - Cosas Simples

Continue reading "Christian Dittmann - Cosas Simples"
"Archipel reaches number ten with this fine debut from Christian Dittman called "Cosas Simples." It begins with the gentle sway of "Para Karol" which ebbs and swirls as smoothly as ocean water in a slight summer breeze. "Suenos" is a deep and spastic and acts like the wind lifting up the sand on a warm day under the sun. It is speckled with sunny stabs and airy pads perfect for a last day at the beach before the bitter chill of fall arrives. One could speak to soon about the arrival of fall tones where "Musica Para Robots" is concerned. It hints at fall with robotic and crispy yet gentle sound textures. Finishing off this release is "Ciudad Subterranea" which is indeed at depths well below the surface of the Earth. It is a moist and metalic journey to the heat of the core. All in all this release is perfect to enjoy the last days of summer with before the arrival of the colder months. Even when it gets cold, Christian Dittman will be sure to bring a certain Spanish charm and warmth akin to that of artists such as Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano." (From the Archipel's release page)

Gyges - Thinly Veiled As Music

Continue reading "Gyges - Thinly Veiled As Music"
"One release away from number ten, Archipel presents Gyges who debuts his first Archipel netrelease, 'Thinly Veiled As Music.' His EP starts of with '4.44.444' which begins as a stuttering soup of deep, warm and humid bass pads and a light kick surrounded by tiny whisps of noise and a low and stab. It later leads up to gently floating melodies and background noises wrapped in a stuttering veil of subtleties. 'Thin Fiend' is a far more chilled escapade into Gyges' star speckled soundscapes and builds up into a glassy living organism which constantly folds over and through itself within an infinite plane of light pads and stabs which drift off into the subconscious growls of bass and vast fields of static scratches. The last track of Thinly Veiled as Music, 'Sugrus' is a sugary wrap of swelling warmth which is somewhat chilled at the same time and is filled with rushing hisses and sweeps of degraded sounds. It constantly swirls and flows straight into the listener's ambient core and sheds new light on previously unthought of mental landscapes.
While Jesse Somfay's album launch in Montreal, Gyges played live for us. As a bonus track, you can hear the full set for your own pleasure. NO DERIVATIONS for this release, sorry." (From the Archipel's release page)

Ryan Crosson - The Plane Ride EP
Continue reading "Ryan Crosson - The Plane Ride EP"
"The future is indeed bright for Ryan Crosson who, for his first Archipel netrelease 'The Plane Ride', brings gooey thick minimal funk to all who step aboard this flight. 'Bow String' is a hypnotic and spastic ride through torrents of tiny sounds with a hint of reverb and enough bass to down a plane! Crosson then brings us 'Ryepickle and Cheese' which is another reverb speckled bass heavy bout of turbulance on a very funky flight. 'Blue to Green' is deep and throbbing with melted plastic percussion and light chords and gets you up and dancing, feet firmly in the air. Ryan then ends his Archipel debut with the title track 'The Plane Ride' which is a gentle and elastic journey through tiny rubber clouds in a sky made of blue jelly air." Navarro - Medium

"Archipel introduce you to the first release of a serie of 3 who will focus on ambient material the label has received.
Navarro, who's real name is Alexandre Navarro has a strong educated background in music. His compositions have been featured worldwide in certain art exhibits. He currently resides in Paris, France, where he focuses on creating intricate melodies and sounds always in his own unique style. He wants to use music as a medium of peace. And with his first release on Archipel, 'Medium', is just that, a medium of mental peace and serenity. With '9 & 6' he concocts a special brew of breezy spaces and liquid depths with a slow and carressing beat at its heart. Soft pillowy melodies carry the emotions of this track right to the inner self and steadily become calming and relaxing. The track 'An Island in Your Mind' is definitely a mental island. It is an island for your brain to lay back tanning its cortex to a perfect tint and sucking in every ounce of aural sunlight with a light summer breeze stroking it deeper and deeper into a shimmering and energetic hypnotic state." "Dafluke, whose real name is Lucas Granito, knows a thing or two about originality, subtlety and detail, that is for sure. Here he presents us with four slinky tracks of digital funk suitable for any fashion runway.
For starters, 'Pain Go Away', is nothing short of being able to make your backbone slide with its Boards of Canada inspired sound of gentle and groovy warmth. Tiny sounds can be found speckled about the track, hiding where you'd least expect them, peaking out from underneath sheets of bass and a rattling cowbell that just keeps the groove alive.
Next, 'Somewhere in Us' slowly inches its way around in your ear canals straight to your arms and legs. Peppered with jazzy snippets, gentle percussion and late night stabs and pads, it makes for an excellent track to cool off to in a gentle summer breeze.
'Can't Wake Up' continues this trend with stabs and fragments of funk in all the right places swirling around a pogo disco bassline which keeps you jumping into the morning sunrise. And finally 'New Strut' finishes off with glistening guitar clips and gentle crackles and hisses to make you feel completely cozy in a bed of warm atmospheres and a dash of starlight thrown in for good measure." Plaster - Chaos Theory

Continue reading "Plaster - Chaos Theory"
"For Croation artist Plaster's first release on Archipel, we present two steamy dub influenced minimal jams and two equally deep remixes from Butane and Leander Kruese. With Conspiracy Part 1, Plaster takes us into a humid space full of shuddering hisses and stabs and a deep dub bassline which just makes it all the more deeper and steamier. Conspiracy Part 2 is just as steamy and fueled by a deep throbbing kick surrounded with wet crackles and pops. The silver lining to this cloud is the deep hypnotic stab which drags the mind out far into the distance. Butane's remix of Conspiracy Part 01 is a dancier but still very dub influenced and spacey journey through the cracks and crevices of the original. And lastly, Leander Kruese's remix of Conspiracy Part 02 draws on the far out stabs of the original and is just as dubby. With this release, Plaster and co. will take you on a journey of unexplored depths in an ocean of vibrating and energetic sounds." (From the Archipel's release page)

VA - Assignement 1

Continue reading "VA - Assignement 1"
"Confronted with the idea of only using 3 samples from the samplepack and then picking one extra, a bunch of Archipel artists went beyond their usual creative routine to deliever a massive effort. Eight tracks that introduce you to an exercise which will be repeated regularly, as Archipel is a label about challenges and new ideas. Only reprocessing and effects were permitted, as Archipel believes that creative limits are actually a door that leads beyond our personal limits.
This release opens up with Navarro, who goes on an ambient excursion and sets a tone for the whole release. If minimalism is the operative word, Bern follows with a very cold and heady track, a perfect tool for DJs and also a door opener to personnal introspection. Tpolar is next with a moment of glitchy punches, followed by Le_Cantin who takes it deep. Then, we introduce a new artist to our label, Plaster, who makes his first appearance with a bit of the dark side, very deep and serious. Next is Gyges with an intensly minimal track, reminiscent of Richie Hawtin's Concept series. Finally, Jesse Somfay and Pheek close this first Assignement with 4/4 tracks, as they love to do.
Should you have any idea of challenges for future Assignement Compilations, please share them with us at info@archipel.cc" (From the Archipel's release page)

LeCantin - Secrets We All Share

Continue reading "LeCantin - Secrets We All Share"
"Patrice Cantin of Montreal has mainly focused on IDM since early 2000. His taste and passion for both melody and percussion comes from an early love of music and his percussion background in a garage rock band.
For his first net-release on Archipel, Patrice works with a good mixture of beats and warm ambience. Throughout Secrets We All Share, warped beats and percussion peppered with breezy noises and swirling pads are perfectly refreshing in any room. With 'Fancy Stairs', Patrice drops sounds into a pool of warm and bubbly delay. Distant stabs shudder and bring a certain humidity to the shimmering delay laden track. Patrice then dives even further down into the pool with 'Fluke' using frothy humid stabs dipped in reverb and delay while occasional bright reverbed stabs light up the depths. He then chills the entire space with 'Locust' which bumps and flickers about in the darkness of some unknown space in the ocean. And then where it is least expected, a huge bubble of warmth foaming with shuddering sweeps and jittery waterlogged sounds driping with filters.
A soothing release for this long winter." (From the Archipel's release page)
